Keep your energy and mental focus going strong

When we eat foods that release sugar into our bloodstream quickly, our energy (and mood) tends to spike and crash like a roller coaster ride instead of being steady and sustained. We also tend to feel less satisfied and feel hungry sooner. It’s also harder on our body, especially our pancreas! Here are some healthy snack ideas that help promote blood sugar balance. As always, speak to your healthcare provider before making any changes, dietary, lifestyle or otherwise.

Snack ideas for blood sugar balance

Nuts and seeds (raw and unsalted)

Hummus and veggies

Hard-boiled eggs

Unsweetened Greek yogurt with fruit

Cottage cheese and veggies (eg. carrots, peppers, celery, broccoli)

Celery and nut butter

Apple and nut butter

Kale chips (Check out some recipes online, I like making mine with sesame seeds, olive oil, and baking for a longer time at a lower temperature like 200 degrees Fahrenheit)

Smoothies (Check out some recipes online, a basic recipe can involve some protein powder (eg. 15g per scoop); almond milk, coconut milk or rice milk (or regular milk or yogurt); and fruit like berries, peaches, cherries etc; half an over-ripe banana or some avocado also can help to make the texture nice and smooth!
